Post-wedding shoots are so much fun!

One of the things we hear most, from friends of our brides that have done a post-wedding (a.k.a. ‘trash-the-dress’) shoot is “oh, I wish I could do my wedding all over again so I could do a shoot like this! [and to have you do our photos!] (I love that part!). So, if it is not too late for you, consider doing it!!! On a post-shoot day, time is not critical, a little dirt on the dress is fine, and it is simply a fun way (and excuse!) to dress back up again in that dress. I don’t think in all of these that I have done a single rip, tear, or stain that did not clean out has ever occurred, so it really is something to consider!

Here is beautiful Jennie, married on July 10 of this year, on our fun-filled post-wedding shoot September 1 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. These are just a few of my favorite shots that day.

Maine Wedding Photography: Downtown Portland, Meghan and Andrew, August 28, 2010

A beautiful, warm but not-too-hot day Saturday August 28, 2010, for Meghan and Andrews wedding. Based at the Eastland Park Hotel with the wedding ceremony just a couple of blocks away at the Sacred Heart Church in downtown Portland. A bonus, the Sidewalk Art Festival was underway in Congress Square at the same time as the bride’s prep, giving us a few fun photo ops. Then there’s the 1962 Bentley; I had the privilege of being the only person with the bride and groom and chauffeur; I had hoped for, and found, a quiet area of Deering Oaks for a few shots, and it all worked great. So, here’s a summary of the day’s highlights…

Not normally a big fan of “split tone” part color-part black and white images (well, 5 years ago maybe it was a cooler thing) for some reason in this image it seems to work quite well and I actually think it is the definitive way for this particular shot to be at its best. Just thought I’d share.

Maine Windjammer Wedding Photography- Choreography at Sea

I had the privilege of photographing Allysa and Seth’s wedding Saturday, June 26, 2010. The wedding itself was late afternoon on a small island off Isleboro, and the fun started as all 160+ guests and bridal party (and two photographers!-thanks Angi for making the trip with me!) departed Camden Harbor (and Rockland Harbor) on three schooners and two high-performance lobster boats for a rendezvous at sea! Here are some favorite moments! Congratulations to our newlyweds!!!!(above) We love having a room like this for the presentation of the gown and for the bride’s prep! Thanks to the bride’s mom and dad for this!!!

(above) Allysa and sister / maid-of-honor Kris, who were essentially raised on the water, thinking not twice about their brave stance on the schooner MISTRESS, one of three owned by Maine Windjammer Cruises (MWC) in Camden. Allysa’s dad is Captain Ray Williamson, owner of MWC.

(above) We were blessed with partly cloudy skies, total comfort even out of the harbor, and just perfect Maine scenery and all of its beauty!

(above) Photo by Angimarie Manter, Assistant Photographer. Looks “photo-shopped”, but isn’t. The groom and groomsmen were on one of the lobster boats and nearby while the bride and her sister were on the stem being photographed on the bow of the MISTRESS. Angi did a great job composing this! (PS-this is but another reason to have multiple photographers!)

(above) The GRACE BAILEY (l) carried the most guests; the MERCANTILE (r) the next most. The MISTRESS (center) was limited to the bridal party. Oh, and the photographer after some skillful maneuvering by the INSTIGATOR to shuffle Russ from his staring vantage boat on the GRACE BAILEY. Captain Ray, you have an amazing fleet of classic vessels! (that give an amazing sailing experience, too!)

(above) Andrew, close friend of the bride, and thus technically part of the bridal (vs. groom’s) party, decided to have a peaceful ride in the skiff towed by the MISTRESS…. though for a moment his line tangled, and thankfully Andrew managed to stay dry and inside the boat!

This, along with the next two, are my favorite images of the day. Here, with his schooners as backdrop, Captain Ray brings Allysa ashore at Warren Island to be married just a few minutes later.

There were a lot of tears of happiness after the “I do’s”…. I just love capturing these moments, this is what wedding photography is all about. You can’t see the bride’s face in this shot, nor do you have to. Nice job by the officiate and family friend, Captain Steve, (left).

A strategically planned 5 minute walk to the far side of the island was, well, worth a lifetime of memories. We love it when couples give us a few minutes for shots like this. We make the most of it every time. Congratulations to Allysa and Seth!

Maine Wedding Photographers Model Shoot Day

This gorgeous May day at a perfect 76 degrees started at Falmouth’s Mackworth Island with Tricia and Rich, being married this June 19…Then a couple of hours later I met Taryn and Drew at the always spectacular Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth for their engagement shoot. Taryn and Drew will be married this October in Falmouth. We even went back to the studio after and did a few shots in Drew’s U.S. Marine Corps uniform and Taryn in a great sundress. Wonderful couples that end up knowing that their photographer will be “okay” (and FUN!) to work with on wedding day.

A week ago today marked the end of a wonderful week of education with Joe Bussink, one of the world’s best wedding photographers on many accounts. Joe showed and inspired us —a lucky group of wedding photographers from New England [and one from Pakistan!] (I was the only one from Maine)….— his style, his technical prowess, his kindness, his tact, his quiet demeanor. He inspired us with his art and the art of the masters from Europe. Clearly for me the best week of education so far in the wonderful world of wedding photography. Thanks Joe!
